Rivebend High School, home of the bears, proudly presents our Riverbend Baseball team as one of the area's top AAA teams. Riverbend belongs to the Commonwealth District and Northwest Region of Virginia, and we look forward to another great year!

4/10/10 Riverbend 24 FCS 1Riverbend 24 FCS 1- Dylan Snelson and Kory Pfeiffer combined on a two hitter. Snelson struck out six. Taylor Fennewald hit a 3 run blast in the second followed by Nick Gianforte's Grand Slam in the 4th.

4/1/10- Bears Bounce Back! Riverbend 10 Massaponax 0

Senior Dustin Sparks allowed only two hits over 5 innings and the Riverbend bats came back to life as, the Bears improve to 4-2 on the season. Second baseman Derek Gallello went 3 for 3 to lead all hitters. Sam Watts added two doubles and 3 RBI's. Donald Sherman and Nick Gianforte also added two hits for Riverbend. Riverbend (4-2) and (2-1) in the Commonwealth will take a few day off over spring break and then be back in action Saturday, April 10th for the Bash at the Bend.

3/31/10 Riverbend 3 Colonial Forge 6- After starting to get on a roll over the past couple of games, the wheels fell off the cart on Wednesday night. The Bears kicked the ball around to the tune of 6 errors on the night. The most crucial coming in the top of the 7th that allowed two Forge runners to cross the plate to put the game away. Forge pitching was also very tough led by Jake Black holding the Bears to only 4 hits on the night. Riverbend will hope to bounce back tomorrow night against Massaponax at home. Game time 7:00 pm.

3/25/10- Riverbend 5 Stafford 3- Due to a forecast of rain for the 26th, Stafford and Riverbend played a day early. Dustin Sparks again went the distance for Riverbend striking out 6 and only walking 1. Taylor Fennewald led all Bears hitters going 3 for 4 on the evening. Riverbend moves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Commonwealth. The Bears will host Colonial Forge in another district contest Tuesday, March 29th at the Ball Park at Riverbend.

3/20/10 Riverbend 7 Manchester 4- After playing poorly in the morning, the Bears bounced back with a solid win over one of Virginia's top teams beating the Manchester Lancers 7-4. Dustin Sparks went complete for the Bears scattering 7 hits facing one of the states top lineups. Senior Lead-off man Nick Lacik went 2 for 2, walked twice and scored three runs to pace the Bears. Anthony Pereira, Derek Gallello, Taylor Fennewald, and Garrett Rioux also had two hits for Riverbend. The Bears move to 2-1 on the season. They will open up Commonwealth District Play Friday the 26th at Stafford.

3/20/10 Riverbend 7 Kettle Run 11- Riverbend had trouble shaking the cob webs Saturday morning. Their pitchers walked 8 Kettle Run hitters and the infield made 6 errors on the way to an ugly loss. On a brighter note Derek Gallello, Taylor Fennewald, Nathaniel Traugh, and Greg Capozza had two hits apiece for the Bears. Capozza had 3 RBI's on the day

Riverbend 15 Caroline 5- Riverbend opened the regular season Wednesday night with a non-district win against the Caroline Cavaliers. Andy Moranville started on the bump going 3.1 innings striking out 8. Garrett Rioux led all hitters going 3-3 and had 5 RBI's. The Bears are back in action Saturday March 20th for their home opener. They play Kettle Run at 11:00 and Manchester at 5:00. Manchester and Kettle Run will square off at 2:00 PM.

The 2010 Varsity team recently escaped the snow with a trip to North Carolina. They got some much needed time on a field rather than a gym floor and played pretty well in their scrimmage against First Flight High School.

2010 Tryouts - Monday thru Wednesday February 22-24. Tryouts will run from 2:30 - 5:00 meeting at the field weather permitting. In case of inclement weather location to be determined. You must have a complete VHSL physical on file with Mr. Lancaster and meet all academic eligibility standards.
