Welcome to Kodiak Wrestling Club’s 8th year!
Kodiak Club’s mission:
We promote wrestling knowledge at the elementary/middle school level and teach your children solid wrestling fundamentals they can use in high school. In addition, we provide competition children would not normally have in Spotsylvania County. Finally, we try to encourage a love for wrestling that will last as the child enters high school and moves on to tougher competition. Kodiak coaches promote sportsmanship above all else.
“Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose.” ~ Tom Krause
Developing courage is a core value of our program. Children who have courage learn, grow, and succeed from failure as well as accomplishments. “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get back up.”~ Vince Lumbardi. Wrestling may or may not be your child’s passion in the end. However, courage and experiences gained from having courage will be with your child for the rest of their lives.
Youth sports in general these days come with a very high amount of pressure to win. “Did you know that 75% of all young athletes drop out of sports by the time they are 13?” ~ Patrick Cohn article. Learning despite setbacks, learning from mistakes, and being able to take constructive criticism are mindsets that do not come overnight. They must be taught and nurtured. Our club produces kids who love wrestling enough to stick with it through thick and thin. When our athletes get to high school they have enough mental fortitude to enjoy a very tough sport and thrive in that environment.
Therefore… It is the Kodiak Wrestling program’s mission to also provide a healthy athletic environment for athletes. We retain as many athletes as we can for as long as possible in the sport of wrestling. The Kodiak staff is constantly educating itself on better ways to develop their athletes’ love for the sport.
